Anston Cricket Club

27th January 2012

We've arranged a couple of cracking nights to help with this lovely cricket club's fundraising efforts for their pavilion upgrade. Set just off the A57 in between Worksop and Sheffield they are a club going from strength to strength and we're bringing some of the UK's top comedians to entertain them

The lineup

Michael Redmond

There are not many people who have been struck by lightning and lived to tell the tale. While this may not have actually happened to Michael Redmond himself, it is a fate which befell his character Father Stone - one of the more memorable creations of C4's classic comedy Father Ted. There is something of a lightning strike victim in Michael. With his shock of white hair, droopy black moustache and a face that the phrase hangdog expression was invented for, he was born to perform deadpan comedy. It is a difficult style for any comedian, but with his physical head start he has gone on to prove himself a master over the past fifteen years. Michael has that rare physical presence that is capable of getting audiences rolling with laughter without having to say a word. But when you add to this his natural gifts of precision timing and outrageously well-crafted material, the results can be almost tortuously hysterical.

Nick Page

Nick Page is a disgraced former Daytime TV presenter and convicted forger who revels in the kind of stories most people would want locked in the darkest cupboard. His unique rapid fire delivery will leave you wondering how anyone can get through so many words so quickly, and how he's escaped justice, or at least retribution, for so long. Compere and headline act, with very broad audience appeal, so equally at home in an Arts Centre, a busy weekend club, a corporate event or a university. As well as stand up he's hosted all kinds of odd events from fashion shows, burlesque shows and talent contests to auctions and boxing matches. He is, quite simply, the best act you've never heard of!!

MC Gareth Urwin

Sheffield lad Gareth is an established compere on the comedy circuit who'll warm your cockles to what will be an amazing night of joy and laughter. "We got Gareth back to Giggle Aid II because he did an excellent set last year in front of 220 people and I know he's also a great compere. We had a venue for Giggle Aid II full of 450 people and Gareth did a fantastic job warming them up for our main acts (including Dave Spikey) and keeping the night rocking along all night. I'd highly recommend Gareth as a compere for audiences of all sizes” – Max Newton, British Red Cross

With Support from 2 of the hottest talent currently emerging, Jay Hampson and Masai Graham
